The role
The Manager of Technical Accounting will be responsible for assessing, documenting, and supporting/defending all of Apollo.io’s accounting positions relative to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). We are looking for a motivated, self-driven, and high performing finance professional who is seeking a foundational opportunity at a fast-paced growth-stage startup. This is an individual contributor role that is 100% remote and will report directly to our VP, Global Controller.
This is key role for our organization as we continue to evolve our accounting function in step with the overall organization. Core to this role is the ability to: (1) assess where technical accounting guidance is needed, (2) document in a clear manner the required treatment with an eye towards how the transaction will be processed within our systems, (3) educate finance (both the accounting and financial planning & analysis teams) on the recommended treatment/justification/steps to record, (4) defend guidance/positioning stance with our external auditors, and (5) be able to uplift private company financials to a public company standard. A primary and on-going focus of this role will be on revenue accounting.
Position Responsibilities
- Assess and document the accounting treatment/conclusions for all complex/non-standard transactions
- Other initial documentation areas beyond a heavy revenue focus (ASC 606) include: cost of revenue, foreign exchange, equity, and all other areas needed to uplift the financials to those of a public organization
- On a continual basis, research, assess and document new accounting guidance
- Work with our accounting team to ensure that all technical guidance is properly digested and recorded in our books and records
- Will own the footnotes to our audited financial statements as well as the format of our financial statements. This requires a close relationship with our external auditors
- Own and update as needed all process narratives
- Have a future focus on the documentation of our control environment over financial reporting (SOX)
- Influence the design of the Company’s to be accounting system
- To the extent that bandwidth allows, be willing to assist the controllership with transactional duties and other ad hoc projects
Requirements
- 7+ years of relevant work experience including tech, SAAS and startup exposure
- Big Four public accounting experience required
- Certified Public Accountant (active)
- Extensive understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally at all levels in an efficient manner. Note that the interview process will include a written ‘homework’ assignment
- Highly motivated with the ability to work in a rapidly changing global and remote environment
